Michael and Patti Hammonds
Michael Hammonds, and his wife of 20 years, Patti, live in Euless Texas which is on the West side of DFW airport. They have a blended family of five children and five grandchildren. Their youngest is college age, and they are enjoying the time that being empty nesters allows for kayak fishing, around the schedule of being Grandparents or course! They both enjoy being on the water and out in God’s creation.
It wasn’t until several years into their marriage that they made the decision together to follow Christ. There have been many times when they have fallen but praise the Lord for using those times to strengthen and grow their relationship both together and in Him! Over the years they have both served in various church leadership roles. Michael served many years as the service coordinator for a mega church and lead both men’s and couples’ groups. Additionally, he attended seminary for personal growth, and studied Biblical Studies, Theology, and Church Administration. Patti has also lead women’s and couples’ groups and works in full time ministry with Prison Fellowship as the Senior Manager for Angel Tree Delivery. Her team makes Christmas possible for almost 300,000 children every year!
As their youngest progressed through High School and competitive winter guard on a professional scale, and feeling like they weren’t at the church home God wanted them to be, they decided to step away for a season of rest. As they had ended the season of rest God had been prompting them to become active again, but they were hesitant about their local churches. That’s when God stepped in! Michael ran across a post in a local kayak fishing group for the 2018 KFWC National meetup. He asked Patti if she was interested in attending, and after reviewing the website she agreed. Their lives were changed forever that weekend to say the least. Not only did they extend their new forever family, but they witnessed how Kayak Fishing with Christ is completely a God lead ministry. They walked away from the weekend together having recommitted their lives to Christ but were also baptized! This time was it was not a “ritualistic” tradition for them. It was because God put it in their hearts like never before to not only seek after Him but to focus on others. The following weekend God led them to a small mission focused non-denominational Bible Church two miles from their home. Today they both but have accepted new roles. Michael runs the audio board and is a member of the security team, and Patti teaches in the children ministry.
A few months later Michael agreed to serve as the North Texas Ambassador. He feels it a great honor to be the hands and feet of Jesus within our mission field, and to assist in the organizations growth. God is doing amazing things not only with KFWC as a group but within the members themselves, and they feel appreciative to be a part of that.
